Hardware

This is a vast subject, so will most likely be constrained to a few notes and useful bits if information.

In summary, we have a number of "layers" involved, so a quick run though.....

• Physical - the actual hardware, chips, circuits and so forth
• BIOS - the Basic Input Output System but now succeeded by UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, this brings all the hardware together and allows management of it
• Operating System - this is what talks to the hardware, and is itself layered

BIOS

Sometimes it can be tricky to enter the BIOS setup screens, fortunately HP provide some help, see How to Enter BIOS Setup on Windows PCs | HP® Tech Takes.

Once in a BIOS it can be tricky to navigate, Lenovo have a very nice BIOS Simulator at Lenovo BIOS Simulator Center.
