Just thought I would write up the very basic steps for IT Support. Whilst this generally works please note I accept no responsibility for what you do. In short, you are on your own but in case this helps:
+ if something on the computer does not work try this:
- turn the computer off
- wait a moment
- turn it on again
- try again
- try searching on the internet for the problem, you might be surprised! However be careful as not all advice is good advice!
- if it still does not work you probably need someone to visit you
+ if the internet does not work or something that uses the internet does not, then try this:
- turn the computer off
- turn the router/home hub off
- wait 30 seconds
- turn the router/home hub on
- wait 30 seconds
- turn the computer on
- try again
- if you still have an internet problem then phone your broadband supplier, BT for example
- your internet company may be unable to help or blame your computer, in which case you need someone to visit you
Now for work computers, if you need someone to visit then this is the point where your employer should have a support contract with someone who can help.
For your home computers, then try and find a knowledgeable friend.
