If you are not sure which version/release of openSUSE you are running then just look at the file /etc/os-release. The simple way to do this is from a terminal session, just type cat /etc/os-release. It clearly tells you everything you need, however if you see i586 then you have the 32-bit version, x86_64 identifies the 64-bit version.

It is possible to upgrade from openSUSE 13.1 to 13.2, for example. Simply follow the steps at SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE however do follow them carefully and make sure you read SDB:Switch runlevel - openSUSE as part of the process.
